Pokemon 2019: Nintendo Switch release news, RPG game updates, rumours, leaks and more

Pokemon Let's Go! Pikachu and Pokemon Let's Go! Eevee are two Nintendo Switch games due to come to the console later this year.

The games are leaning more towards the immensely popular mobile phone game Pokemon GO for their inspiration, doing away with traditional mechanics like random battles and replacing them with capture-based encounters instead.

Whilst these games are intended for a wider audience, remaking the first generation of Pokemon games to appeal to lapsed fans, some of the more hardcore Pokemon players are concerned this is the series being 'watered down', that the in-depth RPG mechanics of the series are being pushed aside in favour of accessibility.

Game Freak assures this isn't the case, however, and has confirmed that more Pokemon games - set to continue the mainline series - are in development for Nintendo Switch and are due to release next year.

This article will collect all the information we know about these as-yet-untitled games so far.

Pokemon RPG 2019 - What we know so far
Pokemon 2019 will be the next step in the mainline Pokemon games that were most recently updated with Pokemon Ultra Sun and Pokemon Ultra Moon.

According to Pokemon Company CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara, the game is going to be much more in-line with what players know from the Pokemon games, and will be quite a lot different to the two Pokemon Let's Go! games.

"The new title coming out in the second half of 2019 will be a completely different game [to Pokemon Let's Go]," said Ishihara-san in an interview with Japanese magazine Famitsu.

"It is not an entry game, but a game that we want longtime fans of the Pokemon series to look forward to.

"The game will give a good understanding of what an evolved Pokemon game looks like after it has continued to succeed the traditions of Game Freak.

"We want to make Pokemon fans say 'this is what I've been waiting for' by delivering a brand-new product packed with gameplay elements and plenty of new Pokemon to encounter."
